Power pop’s flagship song was almost the brainchild of The Cuties. That’s right, I said The Cuties. After the dissolution of Kursaal Flyers, Will Birch and John Wicks were searching for a good name for their newly formed band. They thought they had settled on The Cuties until they ran into Joe Strummer. His response to the new name? “That’s Terrible“. So it was back to the drawing board for a new name.
When Will came up with The Records, the guys couldn’t believe that no one had ever used that name before. Struck by their luck, they immediately jumped on this new name.
Great story! I miss the live shows.
Glad you stopped by, Scott. Hope you’re well!
