Like millions of others around the world, I’m shocked and deeply saddened by the premature passing of Tom Petty. In addition to attending one of his band shows at the Hollywood Bowl some years back, I was very fortunate to get to meet him – along with The Heartbreakers – back in February of this year, here in Los Angeles, both at a rehearsal and at the MusiCares ‘Person of The Year’ show, held in his honor. He and the band were extremely gracious and kind to me, and I will treasure these memories for the rest of my life.
As we rabid fans know, Tom and the band just recently finished up a triumphant 40th anniversary tour, culminating with 3 nights at the Hollywood Bowl. He and his music meant so much to so many, touching our hearts and souls – accordingly, it’s hard to accept that one of our greatest songwriters and performers, is no longer here with us in this earthly realm. But his music and legacy will live on forever.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Tom’s family, his loyal, long-time band mates and his friends, at this time. Rest in Peace, Tom Petty. We love you!
